Environmental Toxins and Fertility

Phthalates, BPA, and common chemicals found in plastic bottles and plastics that you microwave food in can cause infertility, implantation failure and miscarriage. Toxins can be released from these products when exposed to high heat and other conditions. BPA’s can alter thyroid signaling, mimic estrogens, and is an antiandrogen. These are endocrine disrupting chemicals and should be reduced or mostly eliminated when working on conception. In men there is a greater risk of sexual dysfunction, lower testosterone, declines in semen parameters and increases sperm DNA damage.

Supplements which may improve Fertility:

CoQ10 600mgs/day of oil based Ubiquinone can increase energy production inside the mitochondria within eggs and other cells, can inhibit DNA oxidation thus protecting the egg DNA, it can improve both egg quality and fertilization rates in older women working on fertility.
CoQ10 has demonstrated to improve sperm motility and morphology and to reduce DNA damage. Oil based Ubiquinol is absorbed better but VESIsorb is the best absorbed.
PCOS patients significantly benefit by taking coQ10 as their pregnancy rates increase, more follicle growth, greater endometrial thickness, it can reduce LDL cholesterol and reduce insulin levels.

DHEA is used in women with diminished ovarian reserve or of older age to increase IVF pregnancy rates, shorten time to pregnancy, increase the quality and quantity of eggs and embryos and reduce the risk of miscarriage. It can help those with low androgen levels, low DHEA-s but can worsen conception rates if they have high DHEA-s levels, are young, have PCOS.
The usual dose for fertility is 25mgs 3 times/day of DHEA.
